Edinburgh 2024
This set of haiku were written in January 2024 on an annual trip to Edinburgh to see the Turner watercolour collection.
Unbroken grey day
Burns and brooks still and gentle
Trees turned to timber
—
Dreich is the only word
Atmosphere turgid and thick
Muffled sound wound tight
—
Ruined bastle stands
Amid the crowded forest
Rooted in the past
—
React and rebel
Skater girls with skater boys, dance
Naked in the cold
—
Sodium lamp lit streets
Nightlife mirrored in grim pools
Ae last kiss, goodbye
—
Early day shopping
Hot buttered window dressing
Buy me or eat me
—
Rain splattered windscreen
On the late bus home, sweet home
Darkness eats the road
—
Beneath the castle
Keep, where the daffodils spring
From the fields of blood
—
Return to the fray
After a night of deep sleep
Let the day begin
