Train Along The Humber, Thrice 2022
This set of haiku were written throughout 2022 and the trips made on the York to Hull rail journey.
York, here great tracks cross
Roman meets Viking meets you
History marks the path
—
Awaiting connection
Selby, a nowhere platform
Where no one alights
—
North bank, flood plain dry
Gravel washed with detritus
Yet still, the heron
—
Empty field, lone byre
Nought moves in the hinterlands
Except crows who caw
—
Four white towers still stand
Monument to the future
More broken promises
—
Dirt on the window
Becomes part of the landscape
Transforming the view
—
Arriving late, Hull
Real reverse Whitsun Weddings
Larkin is leaving
